About the Gleniffer Reserves

The Gleniffer Valley is a beautiful place, and it is no wonder visitors and locals for many generations have enjoyed spending time here. However, the Never Never Creek, the Gleniffer Reserves and surrounding areas are under pressure from increasing visitor numbers, and the impacts of visitor behaviour.
In early 2014, as a result of concern raised by the community, Bellingen Shire Council placed a moratorium on promotion of the Promised Land and the Gleniffer Area by official tourism bodies. With Council’s support there will be no future mass marketing of the Promised Land.

Gleniffer Reserves Master Plan

With intensive input from the Gleniffer and Bellingen Shire communities, The Gleniffer Reserves Master Plan was developed. Adopted by Council in 2016, the Master Plan guides the vision for the Reserves, and proposes sustainable design solutions
with a focus on environmental conservation while creating new contexts for everybody to engage with the ‘place’.

With sustainability being a key precept of the Master Plan intent, the vision for the Gleniffer Reserves reflects our communities creative spirit and environmental values, aiming to preserve a sense of ‘place’ through implementation of ideas and design solutions which are meaningful and engaging.
A Gleniffer Stewardship Advisory Group (GSAG) has been established to guide
the implementation of the Master Plan, provide advice to Council and steer ongoing commitment to the protection, preservation and sustainability of the Reserves

Gleniffer Reserves Interpretive Signage

Visitors to Gleniffer are now able to discover more about the unique environment and history of the Gleniffer Valley while learning how to preserve the natural beauty so that future generations can also enjoy this wonderful place.
The interpretive signage, installed at Earl Preston, Arthur Keough, Angel Gabriel Capararo and Broken Bridge Reserves, has been developed by Bellingen Council to inform, educate and positively influence visitor behaviour.
“Addressing the impacts of visitor behaviour at these highly-valued locations is a key part of the Gleniffer Reserves Master Plan”, said Mayor Dominic King.
“Adopting a ‘National Parks & Wildlife’ approach of positive, welcoming and informative messages, the interpretive signage is a step toward educating Bellingen Shire locals and visitors alike about the precious environment they are in, and encouraging respect for the surroundings and for the Gleniffer residents,” added the Mayor.
The interpretive signage was made possible by a grant from the NSW Government through its Regional Tourism Fund, managed by Destination NSW.
